The Lean In article has made the NBC Page Program a very hot topic around here! Here’s a question from a reader on how you can be best prepared for the Program.
Q. I enjoyed your article on Lean In and I have some questions about the NBC Page Program and what I should be doing NOW in preparation for the Program. Thanks!
A. Thanks for reaching out! If you’re interested in the NBC Page Program and you want to best position yourself to apply, here’s what I recommend:*
Get Your Resume in Tip-Top Shape
Make sure it’s error-free and highlighting your best experiences. This will be the first thing they see and will likely account for a large part of why you do or do not get an interview.
Get More Experience
Even if you already have a lot of industry experience, you should always make sure your resume is current, so having something fresh and new on there can’t hurt. The application process can take a while, so keep your skills up and your foot in the field.
This is the best way to get your resume looked at. Meeting with people who work at various positions at NBC will also help you to get a feel for the company, which will make you better prepared for an interview when the time comes.
Look into what the Page Program has to offer and what it’s known for. When you apply, you’ll be a more attractive candidate if it’s clear you’ve done your homework. The NBC Page Program isn’t for everyone, so make sure you know what you’re getting yourself into.
When you feel you’re ready, apply to the Program online and ask any contacts you have to recommend you for the Program. If you don’t have contacts, that’s okay, you still have a shot. As long as your resume is glowing, you’ll be in good shape.
